Lee County, Florida

  • A precedent that speaks directly to the level of awareness RJI Spatial promotes can be found under the GIS section of the Lee County website. Using GIS mapping, the researchers put together a paper analyzing youth crime under the lens of several spatial variables, taking everything from boundary geographies to offender’s distance from crime location into effect. From the actual paper:  “GIS projects presented with the paper show trend data on the effectiveness of programs responding to youth crime, the relationship between crime locations in residential zones and the offender home addresses, and geographic coordination of agency jurisdictions. The paper documents the second phase of GIS utilization to support a major study of youth crime in Lee County.”
  • Lee County also created a map comparing household income in neighborhoods and teen pregnancies in those areas. The information found in these maps help the various agencies to better know what they’re working with in spatial terms.
