Mapping Demographics

When mapping demographics, there are a number of datasets that may be useful to you.

The premier source for demographic data is the United States Census Bureau. They provide a number of data products including the decennial (occurring every 10 years) census as well as an annual ‘community survey’.

Please visit the RJIspatial pages on the Decennial Census and the annual American Community Survey to learn more about these important resources. Or go straight to the U.S. Census Bureau pages on the 2010 Decennial Census or the annual American Community Survey. Or go here to learn about other U.S. Census Bureau data products.

A number of agencies have created web sites that utilize US Census Bureau data (as well as other data sources). Two notable examples are the Rural Assistance Center and the Regional Knowledge Network. Please visit our Custom Browser Based Mapping page for more on these resources.
