Interactive Census Mapping

One way to understand Census data is through the U.S. Census Bureau’s Interactive Population Map. In this map, which uses 2010 census data, you can display population data respective to demographic categories such as race, age, sex, and housing status.

To get started, type the city and state that you wish to explore into the search bar. Then select the appropriate geographic unit. The base map depicts population data for the geographic unit that you have selected. To get a pop-up of demographic information for a specific location, first click the desired demographic tab, then click the specific location on the map.

Another interactive map available through the U.S. Census Bureau combines County Business Patterns and the 2010 Census data.

Click here to explore the interactive map.

To get started, click the red “explore the map” arrow, and type in any state, city, or zip code. Similar to the population map, the base map depicts business data. To compare business data to demographic data, select the desired demographic tab, then click on a specific location on the map to pull up a detailed pop-up.
